My paperwork is late…what should I do?
Please send your paperwork in as soon as you can, even if past the deadline. You may drop it off at the parish office between the hours of 8:00 – 4:30 pm or mail it to the attention of Nilfa Chacksfield, All Saints Church; 8939 Montgomery RD; Cinti., OH 45236. You may also send it to Nilfa’s attention through the School office or through the PREP office on Sundays.
What is the Kenwood Pastoral Region?
A few years back, the Archdiocese created a pastoral region of St. Vincent Ferrer and All Saints parishes. Fr. Dennis Jaspers is pastor over both parishes and Fr. Jedidiah Tritle is Parochial Vicar for the region. Many of the ministries in the region are shared…one example of such a successful collaboration is our Confirmation Preparation Ministry. Both parishes join together to coordinate and prepare for the sacrament of Confirmation, which we also celebrate together as a region at St. Peter in Chains Cathedral.
How many service hours are required for Confirmation?
There is not a minimum number of service hours required in order to receive the sacrament of Confirmation. All Saints encourages candidates to become engaged in service in three areas: the parish, home/family, and community. Part of becoming a fully initiated Catholic is reaching out to others in service and love. We endeavor to foster this by making service a part of our Confirmation preparation ministry.
Do we have to attend the Spirit Sunday held at St. Vincent Ferrer on November 17th?
Because the Kenwood Pastoral Region collaborates and shares this ministry…St. Vincent Ferrer and All Saints Confirmation candidates will be attending all the events together. St. Vincent Ferrer youth and their families will come to All Saints for events at this campus and All Saints will be hosted by St. Vincent Ferrer on 11/17. In the future, it is the intention of the Archdiocese, Fr. Dennis, staff and clergy that our efforts as a pastoral region increase. Please help us make this a great experience for all the youth! All combined, we have 110+ Confirmation candidates in our program.
I have older children who have gone through Confirmation at All Saints and the schedule of events looks different than what I remember…what has changed and why?
In the past, we offered 3 evening Confirmation meetings and a day-long retreat on Martin Luther King, Jr Day in January. Due to modern lives and schedules, gathering everyone in the evenings on the same date is nearly impossible. After consulting clergy, faculty and staff, it was determined that we should meet on Sundays (Catholic Youth Sports cannot schedule games or practices before 1pm on Sundays). An even better reason to meet on Sundays is that this allows us to keep Christ at the Center of our preparation for Confirmation by attending 9 am Mass together. Our retreat this year is the Awake Youth Rally on November 2. We moved away from MLK Day due to weather issues at that time of year, science fair, which is typically the same week, and an interest in offering a more high-energy event.
What are the details on the Awake Youth Rally?
When our Confirmation schedule was first published, the location of Awake had not been determined. We now know that the event will be held at Guardian Angels parish from 4:30-9:30 pm on Saturday, November 2. We will provide bus transportation to this event, so please mark on your calendars to arrive at the All Saints Parish Center at 3:45 pm on 11/2 and we will return between 9:15-9:30 pm. Dinner will be provided at this event. This event is for Confirmation candidates only and chaperones. We will be recruiting VIRTUS-certified chaperones and providing the youth-to-chaperone ratio required by the Archdiocese. If you would like to chaperone, please let us know! (Contact Emily Mulvey at 792-4603 or emulvey@allsaints.cc).
Do we have to attend all 3 Spirit Sundays? And does my child come alone to these events?
These 3 events include the preparation for the sacrament of Confirmation. We will have light refreshments after Mass to sustain us until the gathering ends at noon. Ideally, your family will all attend 9 am Mass together (please sit wherever you would like) and then your son/daughter plus an adult will come to the Jubilee Room for the Spirit Sunday event right after Mass for refreshments and the program (on 11/17, we will attend 9 am Mass at St. Vincent Ferrer and have the Spirit Sunday gathering there in Hamilton Hall). We strongly encourage a parent, grandparent, godparent or sponsor to attend the Spirit Sunday events with the Confirmation candidate. It doesn’t have to be the same adult in attendance at each meeting. Many of the activities we will do are to show our personal and community support to the youth, so your presence is beneficial and most welcome! If no adult is available to attend, please let us know or ask another parent to keep an eye out for your son/daughter. Again, our hope is that every young person will have a sponsor, parent, or other close adult in attendance at the Spirit Sunday events.
What if I miss Spirit Sunday #1?
Missing Spirit Sunday #1 will push back the candidate’s participation in the Enrollment Ceremony. The Rite of Enrollment is a ritualized act of publicly indicating one’s free-will intent to enter into full communion with the Catholic Church by participating in the final sacrament of initiation – Confirmation. We will also practice protocol for the Rite at Spirit Sunday #1, which is important due to our numbers. It can be chaotic and distracting at the Rite of Enrollment Masses if the candidates are confused about what to do at the Mass or unable to enter the Rite prayerfully. If a candidate misses Spirit Sunday #1, then he/she will be offered the chance to participate in the Rite of Enrollment after Spirit Sunday #2. Please contact Emily Mulvey at 792-4603 or emulvey@allsaints.cc if you will miss Spirit Sunday #1.
What if we are out of town, have an emergency or get sick the weekend of the Rite of Enrollment on September 28-29 and miss it?
If you unexpectedly miss or will be out of town for the Rite of Enrollment, then you will be offered an alternative opportunity to participate in the Rite. We will ensure that everyone who wishes to be Confirmed will be able to participate in the Rite of Enrollment.
