Welcome to All Saints' Confirmation Ministry for 2019-2020! This Virtual Meeting takes the place of the info and catechesis we used to do by gathering everyone in the Church on the same date at the same time. Modern family life and schedules make it difficult to gather in the traditional fashion. Our hope is that the convenience of this Virtual Meeting will make engaging with the catechesis and info about our parish celebration of the sacrament easier and more enjoyable for you and your son/daughter!
Over the next several months, and at this very moment, prayer is the best way to strengthen our faith and our relationship with Jesus. At Confirmation, we receive the gifts of the Holy Spirit, and it is the Holy Spirit, the 3rd person of the Trinity, that we call upon to help us prepare our hearts and our children's souls for this final sacrament of initiation. We will be using the Prayer to the Holy Spirit throughout our preparation...this is a great prayer to utilize at home. Take turns leading it and have everyone join in on the response part "And you shall renew the face of the earth".
Feel free to modernize the English. It's hard to say "didst" without giggling :-).
Parents, Sponsors and Confirmation Candidates! The most frequent thing I hear many Catholics report is that they remember learning about the catechism, but it's gotten rusty. These two videos below (and the FORMED assignment detailed further down this page) are meant to be refreshers for adults and reinforce current learning for the youth preparing for Confirmation. The videos are modern and relevant, and you will gain something from engaging with them, I promise! Please watch the 2 videos below...they are short and packed with good teaching on what the sacrament is all about. These two videos combined will take under 10 minutes to view.
FORMED is a streaming service like Netflix...no commercials but ALL Catholic content. Fr. Dennis purchased this subscription so that every parishioner can access the content FREE! Click on the FORMED image below to register for your free account. You may also like the FORMED app. Once you register you can access FORMED from your PC and/or mobile device.
Once you register, please visit the "Community" tab and select the Featured Content titled Baptism and Confirmation. Click on the image in the Baptism and Confirmation box to access the video content. Please watch Part I and II with your confirmation candidate. If you'd like help with discussing the content, check out the Participant Materials for a parent and participant guide, these pdf materials are located on the right side of the screen below the video and can be downloaded and printed.
Please make it your family's goal to complete the FORMED part of our Virtual Meeting prior to attending our first Spirit Sunday on September 22!
Our first in-person event is Spirit Sunday #1, beginning with the 9 am Mass on September 22. Your family should sit together at this Mass. Confirmation candidates will stay for the event following Mass (including refreshments right after Mass so no one starves:-) and we will be done at 12:00 pm. A parent or sponsor is invited to attend with the candidate.
The following weekend is the Enrollment Masses - Septermber 28 & 29. Each candidiate's family will attend one of the regular weekend Masses and participate in an enrollment ritual (signing the book of enrollment, which makes the statement in the parish community that you are ready to embark on the journey to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation). There is a form due back on 8/19 which helps us plan by telling us which Mass your family will attend. If you are out town or an emergency or illness prevents you from attending, we will offer an alternative enrollment ritual for those who are absent.
Many of our Confirmation forms are due on August 19...please click here to review our Confirmation ministry guidelines, due dates and other important information.
